Each year, skilled
quilters handcraft a quilt to be raffled off during the Holiday Bazaar.
The drawing will take place Sunday, November 4, at 4:45 p.m.; you do not
need to be present to win. This year, in addition to the quilt, a second
raffle prize is offered.
All proceeds are used
to benefit the Fort Lewis Community.

This quilt was made as an artistic
representation of the Fort Lewis community and Washington State. With Mount
Rainier as the background, silhouettes were added of Old Mike, a grape vine,
an
apple
tree branch, an eagle clutching a salmon, a plane to represent Boeing and
McChord Air Force Base and, most significantly, the old gate to Fort Lewis.
Hidden in the background is a raccoon, a common pest to Fort Lewis
residents. Chris Turner provided the inspiration for the quilt, as well as
fabric and batting; and she also did the actual quilting. Others who
contributed time, fabric and insight to the quilt include Diana Avery,
Andrea Clark, Margaret Davis, Geri Schnitzer and Claire Snow (listed
alphabetically). It was completed at Fort Lewis, Washington, July 2007 for
the Officer’s Spouses’ Club’s annual raffle.
A second raffle prize is from the Kate
Larson Studio: a Giclee Reproduction on Watercolor Paper signed and numbered
limited edition of 100. |
